Dimplex’s new A-Class air source heat pump has consistently outperformed the Heat Emitter Guide to deliver what the company describes as ‘outstanding’ results in a series of field tests.
Dimplex worked with key installer partners to install 12 A-Class systems into domestic properties between August and October last year (2013) and has since used remote monitoring to measure the performance of each installation. Early analysis of the winter months shows the Seasonal Performance Factor (SPF) of all 12 installations has exceeded the figure which would be expected under the same conditions according to the Heat Emitter Guide – some by as much as a third.
Clyde MacVeigh, Renewables Marketing Director at Dimplex, says, “The test sites were purposely chosen to give a good spread of locations from Inverness to Southampton and a variety of system specifications. We have tested A-Class with underfloor heating, radiators and Dimplex SmartRad in both retrofit and new build projects and seen outstanding results across the board.”
Dimplex calculated an SPF as high as 4.21 at one installation, a self-build project with underfloor heating throughout, which beat the Domestic Heat Emitter Guide (DHEG) by 0.81. On another site A-Class achieved an SPF of 3.17 (DHEG 2.4), even with conventional radiators at 55°C flow temperature. Every field test showed that A-Class would deliver running cost savings compared to a ‘standard’ air source heat pump performing at the levels expected by the Heat Emitter Guide – with potential savings according to the company of up to £432.
Dimplex claims the new A-Class air source heat pump also delivers a host of benefits for installers to provide easy installation, including system packages which include the majority of components required, a pre-programmed commissioning routine and simple wiring. In addition, the mono-block construction ensures installers do not need to be F-gas approved.
Clyde MacVeigh adds, “As the industry waits for the launch of the Renewable Heat Incentive, we can now confidently add proven performance to the list of installer and end user benefits that A-Class offers. It’s been through a rigorous testing phase in a range of applications and consistently delivered impressive results, so we are delighted with the performance.”
The A-Class heat pump is initially available in 12kW and 16kW models suitable for large, domestic properties including retrofit and new build projects. For more information, visit the Dimplex website.
