Dáil Approves Bill Banning Fracking In Ireland

Dáil Bill Banning Fracking In Ireland

The Petroleum and Other Mineral Development (Prohibition of Onshore Hydraulic Fracturing) Bill 2016 has passed its most significant stage in the Dail almost a year after its proposal.

The Bill, originally to be scheduled to be passed last week, was delayed after a number of amendments were proposed from a number of TDs, which would have extended the fracking bill to ban both on and offshore fracking. The proposed amendment to include offshore fracking was rejected by the Dail and the bill was passed after a two hour debate,  as it was originally brought to the Dail.

The bill will now be brought before the Seanad by Minister Denis Naughten to be discussed, before it can be signed into legislation.
