Scottish oil distributor James D Bilsland’s Assistant Manager Jodie Allan was inaugurated as the 32nd President of the FPS (Federation of Petroleum Suppliers) during FPS EXPO 2017, the oil distribution industry’s renowned annual exhibition.
Vice President of the FPS, the trade association for the oil distribution industry in the UK and Republic of Ireland, since 2015, Jodie Allan will take over the role of President from Duncan Grant of Certas Energy on 10 May when she is formally appointed at FPS EXPO at the Exhibition Centre, Liverpool.
Jodie has a wealth of experience in the oil industry following a lifetime of direct and indirect involvement with James D Bilsland, a family business started by her grandfather in 1964. For the past ten years, she has worked for the firm and is currently Assistant Manager.
Commenting on her appointment, Jodie said: “Being President of the FPS is hugely challenging and rewarding and I’m looking forward to embracing this role.
“Throughout my time at James D Bilsland and as FPS Vice President, I’ve developed a deep understanding of the oil & fuel distribution industry and am excited to apply this knowledge in new ways as FPS President, working alongside the FPS team to help in the daily running of the organisation as well as being ambassador for the industry.”
“Working with the family firm for the past ten years, I’ve learnt to juggle the demands of running a business. I fully appreciate that our customers make our company and we work enormously hard to keep them happy, ultimately, in a crowded market like ours, we need to excel at customer service to stand out.
“The FPS is a members’ organisation and my plan is to enhance and build upon the existing member benefits and develop the relationships we have with members during my time as President. Furthermore, I want to develop closer links with consumer groups and government bodies to strengthen our position as we continue to represent the industry.”
“Formally taking over the Presidency at FPS EXPO gives me a great opportunity to meet 90% of our members. It is renowned within the oil & fuel distribution industry as the event not to be missed,” adds Jodie.
“It’s a great opportunity to showcase all that the FPS has to offer members, to increase our membership, and hear from current members on what is important to them.”
“With my background, it’s easy to think the heating oil industry chose me but I was never pressured into working for the family firm – far from it, I greatly enjoy the diversity and challenging nature of this sector and the fact no two days are alike. The team at James D Bilsland are hugely supportive of my appointment as President and at the prospect of forging new relationships and building on existing ones at the FPS.”
“I’m deeply honoured to be the next FPS President and just hope I can live up to those who’ve gone before me. Being the first woman to become President is daunting and exciting in equal measure, as I know I’ll bring a different perspective to how we tackle the challenges of this industry.”
“More females are entering both the downstream and upstream oil industry which can only be positive, and if I can show young women that any industry is accessible then it opens up this industry to new talent. In a time when renewables are very popular, I believe it’s important for the oil industry to be receptive to change in order to thrive in this new, more environmentally friendly world.”
“Ultimately, I will continue to put customers first as President and will make sure members feel represented at local and government levels on the issues that affect and matter to them.”
