Viridian Solar has confirmed it is to sponsor the UK team in the World Solar Challenge, a biennial race across Australia, for vehicles powered with on-board solar cells.
Cambridge University Eco Racing (CUER) is a team of students from the Department of Engineering with its sight set on the 2015 race. The team hopes that its innovative design combining an aerodynamically optimised shape with a sun tracking solar mounting can deliver it a podium finish.
The race runs from Darwin on Australia’s north coast to Adelaide in the south, a distance of 3,000km. The winning entry last time around completed the distance in 33 hours, an average speed of 91km/h (57 mph).
The CUER vehicle will be one of the highlights on the Viridian Solar stand at the upcoming Ecobuild exhibition, where the UK manufacturer’s ‘concept roof’ matching integrated solar thermal and PV panels, will be joined by a new prototype. Additionally, the Papworth, Cambridgeshire based company will also be announcing a new addition to its range of roof integrated solar panels.
Ecobuild starts today at Excel London and runs until Thursday. Viridian Solar can be found on Stand S5184.
