Chester-based waste lubricating oil collection specialist Oil Monster (OM) has chosen Renault Range D trucks as part of a £1 million tanker fleet replacement programme.
The company, part of national independent waste management group CSG, has taken delivery of two more new oil carrying tankers collecting waste oil which is treated and recycled for reuse rather than destroyed in incinerators.
This makes five tankers purchased over the past two years, with a further seven more in the pipeline to complete an investment in 12 vehicles.
The new tankers have been designed and built using Renault D18 Wide 4×2 R250 E6 chassis cabs and three-compartment, 12,000 litre lightweight aluminium tanks constructed in Spain by Cobo to fully comply with ADR/CEN regulations EN13094. They have been supplied and fitted ready for use by Hydraulic Discharge Equipment Ltd based in Yorkshire.
With a waste oil density of approximately 900 grams per litre, the lightweight design means that carrying capacity is maximised at the 18 tonne GVW.
The Renault Euro 6 emissions compliant engine employs Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) and Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) to reduce emissions and deliver better fuel consumption to cut running costs.
The tankers are fitted with power take-off, speed controlled 3in. CAEF 12 H1R1 mono pumps with reverse flow valve and inline filters. A mono self-priming pump is ideal for pumping contaminated waste oils from underground and above ground tanks and vessels.
The reverse flow arrangement means that unlike many fuel delivery tankers, the waste oil tanker is entirely standalone and capable of loading and unloading the waste oil cargoes without a land based pump.
The vehicles are fitted with handbrake interlocks to prevent the vehicle being driven while the pump is engaged.
“By their very nature, the cargoes loaded and unloaded by Oil Monster can be challenging, and these vehicles have been very carefully specified to ensure that every operation goes smoothly and safely,” said CSG fleet engineer Mick Arnold.
Oil Monster was launched in 2012 and acquired by Fareham-based CSG the following year as part of the group’s aim to become a major player in the waste oil treatment and recovery market.
The waste oil is refined into Processed Fuel Oil which can be used to fire burners in power stations, boilers, lime kilns and other industrial processes.
Oil Monster customers include independent garages, plant hire companies, commercial vehicle repair firms, scrap yards, and rail and aviation servicing facilities as well as national companies like Karcher and Newsprint International.
