Romag's First Terracotta Solar Roof Tiles Installed In South Shields – OilFiredUp

romag-terracotta-7400342 First Romag Terracotta Solar Tile Installation Takes Place In South Shields

Romag’s first installation of its highly innovative ‘Intecto’ solar roof tile is almost complete. The installation is being undertaken in conjunction with Gentoo Homes at their site in Beechbrooke, South Shields, Tyne and Wear.

The Intecto integrated solar tile has been designed with aesthetics in mind and blends seamlessly with terracotta, concrete and clay tiles. It also comes in black, grey and brown and can be tailored to work with almost all existing tiling systems. The tiles use the same PV cells found in the British manufacturer’s existing range of PV panels, but the cells have been specially manufactured to colour-match the UK’s range of terracotta roof tiles. This means that house builders no longer need to compromise on the look of their new housing to prospective customers when incorporating desirable solar technology.

Barry Walker, Managing Director of Gentoo Homes says, “At Gentoo we are always striving to be innovative and deliver high environmental standards across our developments.  Our customers have been asking whether solar can be incorporated into our housing developments as they recognise the value of renewable energy and the financial benefit this technology can deliver. We are delighted to be the first to install Romag’s innovative Intetco system here at Beechbrooke. It clearly demonstrates that the aesthetics of solar are improving and I’m confident our customers will be amazed by this new system.”

Kevin Webster, Romag’s Technical Director says, “As solar technology continues to advance and our customers see the benefits it can bring we will continue to develop new and innovative products to stay at the forefront of the market. The Intecto system has been designed with aesthetics and ease of fit in mind and we’re delighted that the product has been well received by our customers.”

Romag’s new Intecto system is fully IEC and MCS certified and helps achieve compliance with the British Standard BS5534 standard for Slating and Tiling.
