Don’t Forget New Oil Storage Regulations, Carbery Warns Northern Ireland Businesses
Fuel storage tank specialist Carbery Plastics Limited has reminded commercial heating oil and diesel users in Northern Ireland that new fuel storage regulations will come into effect later this year.
The Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) Northern Ireland (Regulations) 2010, establish legally enforceable minimum requirements for the storage of oils at commercial, industrial and institutional premises. The Regulations which are currently at a transitional stage, effectively bring Northern Ireland with the much more onerous requirements that have applied for some time elsewhere in the UK. They come into full effect in December, by which time all heating oil and diesel storage tanks at affected premises in the province must be bunded.
Carbery Plastics’ Operations Manager Cal McCarthy says, “As an environmentally responsible manufacturer, Carbery welcomes any initiative which will further minimise the impact of oil upon the environment. Non-compliance with the new Regulations in Northern Ireland is a criminal offence, punishable by up to 2 years imprisonment, a fine, or both. Additionally, they may also be held liable for any clean-up costs as a result of an oil-related pollution incident, which can frequently exceed £30,000.
“The good news however is that compliance is simple and straightforward. Carbery offers a wide range of fuel oil storage tanks which can help ensure compliance with the Regulations. Each one of which has been engineered to exceed the most demanding Irish, British and European requirements, including The Oil Firing Technical Association’s OFS/T100 Standard.
“Our range of Bunded Heating Oil Tanks comprises no fewer than 7 different models, available in a choice of capacities from 1,000 litres to over 6,000 litres. Whilst for businesses with a requirement to store and dispense Diesel, our Fuel Point range is ideal – with a choice of 5 different models now available up to 6,025 litres.”
