Par Petroleum Awarded Depot of the Year 2016 – ltoR Leanne Hardy, Stuart Hardy, Carol Roy-Toole, Peter Roy-Toole, Simon Roy-Toole and Graham Smerdon of Sponsors QBE Insurance

The trade association for the oil and fuel distribution industry, FPS (Federation of Petroleum Suppliers) has announced its much celebrated Depot of the Year 2016 Award has been won by Par Petroleum, Houghton Le Spring – and not for the first time.

“We’re constantly impressed by the incredibly high standards of Par Petroleum and are delighted this depot has won our award again this year,” says Mark Askew, FPS Chief Executive.

“To scoop this industry-celebrated award once, is impressive, but to do so on six separate years is exceptional and a ringing endorsement of the firm’s commitment and hard work.”

The FPS Depot of the Year Award, sponsored by QBE Insurance, has been running since 2000 and is highly regarded within the oil distribution industry because of the demanding standards it expects from all entrants. In order to enter into the competition, every depot has to have passed an audit by the FPS Depot Certification Scheme within the last 2 years

Mark Askew comments: “The purpose of the certification scheme and depot awards is to encourage all our depots to be the finest distributor possible, but also to help FPS members meet current guidance and compliance. FPS Technical Manager, Tony Brown, who carries out the scheme provides an in-depth report, detailing just what needs to be done to become a first-class depot – and be in with the chance of winning our celebrated award.

“Par Petroleum has won this award six times, which just goes to show what can be achieved with a great deal of hard work and a constant goal of improving health and safety as well as consistently delivering the highest standards of operations and customer service.”

Leanne Hardy, Par Petroleum Finance Director said: “We’re thrilled to have won the depot of the year award for the sixth time, particularly so this year as it’s our 25th anniversary year. Our site has changed dramatically from the day we started back in 1991, since then we have never stood still, I think that’s the key to our repeated success. We are always changing the site, looking for what we can improve next, it just makes good business sense. For example over the last few years we had been developing our own onsite workshops but more recently we have extended our in house provision to offer tanker maintenance as a commercial proposition through our sister company Petroleum Fleet Services.

The fact that this is our sixth Depot of the Year award does not make us complacent. Far from it – we are now determined to find ways to improve even further and try to win next year’s award too!”

The prize for the Most Improved Depot of the Year 2016, sponsored by Phillips 66, has been awarded to Hingley & Callow Oils Ltd, Stourport-on-Severn, Worcestershire.

Helen Needham from Hingley & Callow, said: “To win this award means so much to us as we’ve worked so hard to be the depot we are now, and to have our efforts recognised like this is fantastic. We work together each and every day to be the best we can be and this award is a great boost – our aim now is to win the coveted Depot of the Year Award next year.”

The runners-up for the FPS Depot of the Year Award 2016 are NWF Fuels, Mansfield Depot, and Tincknells, Gillingham Depot.

Mark Askew adds: “We wish huge congratulations to the winning depot, Par Petroleum, and the two runners-up, NWF Fuels, Mansfield Depot, and Tincknells, Gillingham Depot.

“Everyone has done so well this year and all our distributors are keen to scoop this award – which is why the competition is so demanding and the competitors so impressive.”

Mary Wolf, Managing Director of Phillips 66 UK & Ireland Marketing, comments: “It’s fantastic to see one of our longstanding JET-branded authorised distributors, Par Petroleum, scoop FPS’ Depot of the Year Award, especially when it’s for the sixth year running! Par Petroleum is 100% committed to ensuring the highest levels of health and safety and operational performance at its Houghton le Spring depot, so is a well-deserved industry accolade.

“As a long-term fuel supplier to both Par Petroleum, and runners-up, NWF Fuels Ltd, we would like to congratulate both companies on their success – it’s wonderful to have their hard work recognised at an industry-wide level and we’re very proud to have both companies as part of our UK supply network.”
