UKLPG Cautions Against Minion Invasion This Summer – OilFiredUp

UKLPG Issues Minion Warning This Summer

With the Despicable Me spin-off, Minions, one of this Summer’s biggest films, the trade body representing the UK’s Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) industry, UKLPG, is cautioning that an invasion of the little yellow creatures might create safety issues in gardens nationally this summer.

The LPG industry is concerned that individuals may be taking their lives into their own hands by converting gas cylinders into wood burners and art installations based on the Minions, as well as other well-known film and TV characters. Converting gas cylinders in this way can be highly dangerous as well as being unlawful. UKLPG is reminding homeowners and budding artists that throughout the duration of their product lifecycle, gas cylinders remain the property of the gas cylinder company and should always be returned.

Rob Shuttleworth, CEO of UKLPG says, “LP Gas cylinders are portable, convenient and have a very good safety record, which is why they are used so widely in the UK to provide much needed heat and power.

“However, the isolated incidents of individuals irresponsibly converting these cylinders, thus risking life-changing injuries or even death, should be a warning to everyone. The cylinders are designed for reuse upon return, so there is no need to recycle them for alternative purposes.”

LPG cylinders are safe when used correctly, in accordance with the manufacturer safety instructions. However, LP Gas is a highly combustible fuel and can explode if handled carelessly. Even if a cylinder appears empty, residue gas can be ignited by sparks caused by cutting the metal.
